They say the best things in life come in small packages, and Tobago really is the host to some of the best things in life, making it the one of the Caribbean´s jewels for hosting weddings and honeymoons. A spokesman for the island commented, “Tobago is always honoured to host a wedding and/or honeymoon. It´s not in our nature to brag, but we are confident in the knowledge that a more peaceful, romantic, idyllic location is not to be found”.  Culsen Travel fully endorse this comment ...

Culsen Travel fully endorse this comment based on “personal experience”

Our wedding co-ordinator on the island, Susan ensures that each and every wedding couple receives the benefits of her extensive knowledge and personal attention to detail, whether you opt to have your wedding at the villa of your choice or at an alternative venue more suited to larger wedding groups. Originally from Yorkshire Susan understands the anxities that many couple experience when deciding to marry abroad. She has lived in Trinidad & Tobago for over 20 years and has a great knowledge of the island and a fantastic working relationship with the suppliers and venues that she works with in relation to servicing weddings. Having experienced Susan's wedding planning and co-ordination skills firsthand when she organised my wedding 5 years ago, I can confidently recommend her to couplese who select Tobago as their island of choice.

Tobago Weddings - Legal Requirements
Minimum Residency Period (in working days ) 3
Passports
Original Copy Birth Certificates
Legal Proof if name changed by Deed Poll
Decree Absolute if Divorced previously
Affidavit to declare Marital Status - must be stamped by Notary if not married previously
Death Certificate of spouse & previous Marriage Certificate if widow or widower

Leave 3 full working days after your arrival before your big day. Your wedding co-ordinator will then accompany you to the island´s Registry Office where you will complete your paperwork prior to receiving your licence to marry, followed by a meeting with the minister who will conduct your ceremony. This is as much effort as you will need to make, as all the other arrangements will be carried out on your behalf, leaving you to just turn up on the day.

WEDDING VENUES - Culsen Travel have 4 local venues which we recommend for couples wanting to combine their ceremony and reception hosted at one venue. At these venues couples can be assured of beautiful settings, excellent service and attention to detail, quality cuisine or bespoke dining and affordable value for money costs!

Canoe Bay - the most low key of the 4 venues but also one of the most beautiful, Canoe Bay is an isolated beach setting which is idyllic for that picture postcard wedding. Because of its isolated location (accessed down a long rough dirt track - the downside...), it is often completely deserted. Whilst it is not a private beach, as no beaches in Tobago are, there is a small fee for holding your ceremony or wedding there as accessed to the beach and the facilities provided there are locally managed. A gazebo can be erected on the extensive lawan beside the beach for the ceremony, or smaller weddings guests can just shelter under the large gazebo style shades provided. As catering facilities are more limited here Canoe Bay is more suited to guests who just want a cocktail party style reception with finger foods and drinks, or a completely relaxed BBQ style reception  Alternatively you can hold your ceremony here and your reception at one of the other venues noted below.

The Seahorse Inn - one of the island's most renowned restaurants located across from the beach. Couples can have their ceremony on the beach or within the enclosed private gardens. Dining takes place in the open plan covered dining room overlooking the sea where couples with small wedding parties can book tables and select from the extensive international menu. Larger wedding groups can occupy the restaurant exclusively comfortably seating 60 guests, or more if couples wish to have additional guests seated on the lower level of the restaurant.  Large wedding parties will have their own pre-selected reception menu. Seahorse Inn also has one of the largest wine selections on the island.

Sandy Point - a small local property ideal for catering for larger wedding groups who want a private wedding. The gardens are ideal for hosting the ceremony with gazebos erected and decorated and seating laid out under Susan's direction. The wooden bandstand along the side provides the ideal stage area for the steelband who play to greet your guests as they arrive and take their seats, and following the ceremony as pictures are taken around the gardens. Steps lead to the beach area below and the jetty provides the perfect backdrop for some romantic couple shots at sunset. Guests then gather in the open sided covered dining room which Susan has decorated to suit your preferred colour scheme or theme and guests enjoy a wonderful buffet reception meal which includes a wide range of local or international dishes which couples have selected or approved beforehand. The wedding party can commence after the meal and formalities, led by a local band or DJ and assisted with an open or pay as you go bar.

Cafe Coco - a lovely elegant indoor restaurant setting with a decor which gives a completely tropical feel. Couples can have their ceremony and take their pictures on the beach located close to the restaurant and then make their way along to Cafe Coco where they can enjoy either a cocktail reception party or a full seated buffet dinner. Wedding parties of 40 or more will have exclusive use of the property where they can enjoy their reception dinner in an ambience of soft lighting and with minimal decoration required due to the venue's decor made up of tropical palms and shrubs. The catering manager will work with Susan to ensure you have a menu which suits you and your guests and your preferred budget, and guests will be free to choose their preferred form of entertainment durng and after the meal.

GROUP ACCOMMODATION - If you plan to bring a number of guests with you to share your big day, Tobago has a range of great value accommodation where parties can stay together. Villas offer excellent value in Tobago - all have air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, are fully equipped and have their own pool and daily housekeeper., and all are within 5 minutes drive of the beach. For groups we recommend staying in either:

Seashell Villas or Coral Sea Villas two styles of 3 bedroom villas located in the same quiet residential cul de sac within walking distance of Pigeon Beach. This collection of villas provide one of the best value villa options for large wedding parties who wish to be accommodated together but want to enjoy the benefits of their own private space. They are also an excellent value villa option for honeymoon couples because of their special couple under-occupancy rate.

Mon Reve and Mandevilla two large and spacious deluxe villas immediately next to one another overlooking Mount Irvine golf course and accommodating up to total 18 guests. The grounds of these villas are also ideal for hosting smaller wedding ts with up to 30 guests. Additional wedding guests can be accommodated in neighbouring villas situated around the Mount Irvine golf course area. Contact us for details of additional villas.

The Palms Villa Resort also ideal for wedding groups, the Palms are made up of 6 private villas within a gated development , each beautifully furnished and well equipped and with their own large pool. Each villa sleeps up to 6 persons and allowing 36 persons to be accommodated together. The beautiful and extensive gardens and its specially erected gazebo also make this an ideal setting for the ceremony and reception.

Sandpebbles, Yellowbird & Hawksbill House if you prefer to be close to the sea and particularly if you have chosen Seahorse Inn for your weddig venue, 3 neighbouring villas can provide accommodation for up to 18 persons. Just across from Stonehaven Bay and 2 minutes walk from Seahorse Inn each of these villas has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and their own pool. making them ideal for smaller parties requiring just one villa or larger groups preferring to have all 3. Additional guests can also be accommodated at Seahorse Inn which has 4 double rooms.

Grafton Beach Resort & Le Grand Courlan Spa Resort - are both all inclusive hotels which provide an alternative accommodation option for guests who wish to stay together. Wedding couples staying at these two hotels also receive a FREE wedding if they spend 13 nights or more between 1 May-20 December.
