Known as the sugar island, St Kitts is one of the smaller Caribbean gems that is ideal for couples looking for an island which is unspoilt by mass tourism and major development. Along with its sister island Nevis, both islands are located in the Leeward islandsand can be accessed via a weekly direct flight or daily flights into Antigua with a short onward connection.

St Kitts has a number of unique locations where couples can celebrate their wedding. These range from beautifully restored plantation houses which have been turned into beautiful boutique hotels to natural or historic places of interest. Couples can then take a short trip by boat over to sister island Nevis if they wish to enjoy their honeymoon in an alternative destination.

Both St Kitts and Nevis share the same legal requirements with regards to getting married. A special licence is required to allow couples to marry after just two days on the island. The licence cost is $200EC (approximately £40). For couples spending a much longer period on the island an ordinary licence can be purchased after the bride or groom has been resident on the island for 15 days. This licence costs just $50EC (approximately £10). In addition to the usual paperwork couples are also required to have an affidavit confirming they are single. For weddings performed by a minister it is also recommended that a letter is bought from the couple's minister at home verifying they are single.

GETTING MARRIED AT A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE - St Kitts is one of only a handful of islands in the Caribbean that is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Brimstone Hill Fortress is a national park and the site of some of the Caribbean's greatest historical architecture engineered by the British military and virtually hand built through the skillful labour of African slaves. The site still remains one of the best preserved examples of military fortification with five bastions and the citadel covering 38 acres of sloping hillside, and provides an impressive and panoramic backdrop for a wedding. Couples often choose to hold their ceremony in the citadel which also provides spectacular views of St Kitts as well as neighbouring islands on a clear day, making it perfect for wedding shots. Couples can also hold their reception at the site immediately following the ceremony. For smaller parites there is Prince of Wales Bastion Conference/Banquet room that can accommodate up to 24 persons. Or tents can be erected immediately outside to accommodate between 120-200 guests. Costs for use fo this venue range from £25-£60 depending on guest numbers. Larger wedding groups can hold their reception on The Parade Level which can accommodate between 300-400 guests. Costs depend on guest numbers and range from £100-£300, plus a rental fee of approximately £30 per hour. Additional costs will apply to equipment hire and catering, and you will need the services of our on-island wedding co-ordinator to oversee all arrangements. Weddings can be held at this venue on any day between 9am to 8.30pm only.
