ST LUCIA

‘Simply Beautiful’ is the title attributed to the island of St Lucia, and very few of us could argue with this. The island of St Lucia is steeped in history and culture. It is one of the only islands that still maintains many of its French influences from its period of French rule, despite being a British island - namely French patois is the widely spoken local language and the local cuisine is mainly Creole. The island itself can be split into two distinctive halves, with the North of the island offering much of the island’s tourist infrastructure and activities, including many of the island’s best beaches. The Southern half of the island is reserved for a number of the island’s natural attractions and beauty spots, including the famous, Pitons - the spectacular twin peak mountains which are a World Heritage Site.

GETTING TO ST LUCIA
Flights depart from London Gatwick twice a week with British Airways and 3 times a week with Virgin Atlantic. Virgin also offer a once weekly service from Manchester direct to St Lucia. Excel Airlines, the award winning charter airline also offers weekly flights from London Gatwick. British Airways flights are shared with Antigua and so flights stop for an hour en-route to let passengers off and refuel prior to arrival in St Lucia, but passengers do not get off the aircraft. Flights take between 8-10 hours depending on the airline and whether they stop in another island en-route.

ST LUCIA - THE NORTH
The north of the island is the home of the island’s capital, Castries - a busy bustling town which experiences a very real ‘rush hour’ that starts around 4 o’clock each day. The island operates a very good bus system into town for those who prefer the more ‘local’ experience. However, there is no need to visit Castries for general banking and shopping if you are staying in the main tourist areas in the north. Rodney Bay Village is home to its own shopping mall and a number of surrounding shops including a supermarket and amenities such as banks. There is also a wide choice of night spots as well as a variety of restaurants from small local bars serving food, to smart establishments serving international cuisine. A selection of the hotels in our portfolio are located in Rodney Bay. Bay Gardens Beach Resort is a new hotel located directly on Reduit Beach, one of the island's most popular beaches. Coco Kreole & Coco Palms are good two sister hotels offering inexpensive good quality accommodation in the heart of the village, a short walk from the beach.

Cap Estate located north of Rodney Bay is just a short 5 minute drive away, and is home to a number of the private villas in our portfolio. The Cap Estate also houses the island's only golf course. Villas offer views of Pigeon Island, the national park or neighbouring island Martinique, as well as both the Caribbean and Atlantic oceans. All villas have their own private pools and are within a few minutes drive of the beach. Guests are looked after by daily housekeepers who also prepare meals. Villas range from 1 bedroom La Mer to 9 bedroom Villa Capri.

ST LUCIA - THE SOUTH COAST
Most visitors will arrive on the south side of the island at Hewanorra International Airport, approximately 1-2 hours drive to the north side of the island, due to the winding roads and the busy traffic of Castries. For those who prefer a shorter transfer, there is the option of arriving at the George Charles Airport on the north of the island. However as this is the domestic airport, you would have to arrive from one of the neighbouring Caribbean islands, such as Barbados. This can be an alternative way to arrive on the island, with more flights departing the UK to Barbados, and good connections on to St Lucia with a short 45 minute flight bringing visitors into St Lucia's domestic airport. This airport is just 15 minutes from the northern villas and hotels in our portfolio, eliminating the need for the long transfer from the international airport.

The south is also home to much of the island’s dramatic scenery including the famous Pitons, the waterfall, rainforest and botanical gardens. Visitors staying on the north of the island might find one of the many catamaran cruises that operate tours from the north over to the south of the island, to be the most relaxing way to experience what this side of the island has to offer, as the drive can be a bit of a ‘hairy’ one for the not so bold. The southern side of the island is more relaxed and less developed than the north side. Soufriere is the main town but has a more village like feel than busy Castries. The properties we feature on this side of the island offer breathtaking views. Perfect for couples wanting total luxury is Jade Mountain, a boutique hotel in the mountains looking out to the Pitons. Anse Chastanet is the sister hotel located further down the hillside with year round offers which make this hotel ideal for couples and single travellers. Belle Coco is one of a small number of villas we feature on this side of the island.
