JAMAICA
As the second largest Caribbean island after its neighbouring island, Cuba, Jamaica is large enough to enjoy a two centre style holiday whilst remaining right on the island. Many persons not hailing from this beautiful island may be unaware that it takes around 3-4 hours to drive between the two largest cities on the island, namely Kingston (capital) and Montego Bay. The contrast of its spectacular and scenic mountains, its natural rivers and its beautiful beaches, as well as its people, makes Jamaica truly a Caribbean paradise. The island offers a wealth of historical sights, as well as some of the most beautiful natural attractions - Dunns River Falls, Martha Brae, White River, and Blue River Mountains, to name just a few. Jamaica also has a host of restaurants – both local for those who want a genuine “taste” of Jamaica, and many that specialize in more international style cuisine. The island also offers a varied night life and an array of local markets and shops for those who wish to purchase some of the islands wares.

We can also recommend some of the smaller villas on the island as the most idyllic and romantic of settings for that all important honeymoon. With most the villas in Jamaica offering under occupancy rates for just two persons sharing the villa, even some of the larger more spectacular villas can fall within the budget. The key is to ask rather than assume it wont be affordable. STAFFING & MEALS
The villas we feature on the island of Jamaica are fully staffed to almost resemble your own private hotel. In most villas staff living quarters are located within the grounds of the villa, or close by to provide guests with additional security, and to be on hand to look after guest’s needs as required. All meals are prepared and served by the property’s cook or chef, but this is dependent on groceries being available for the preparation of meals. A villa is a self-catering situation so guests will generally shop for their own groceries, or negotiate with the staff to shop on their behalf (providing transport for them to do this where necessary, i.e taxi fare). However, if a party prefers to pre-pay for staff to stock the house with groceries and prepare a range of menus for the duration of their stay so it becomes almost ‘all inclusive’ , this can be done at a cost of £20 per day for adults and £15 for children.
The villa staff in Jamaica provide an excellent service in looking after the needs of guests, and they rely on gratuities or tips to supplement their income. As a result Jamaica villas incur a standard service charge for all villa rentals which resembles the standard 10% service charge included in all hotel bills. This service charge has been incorporated in the total villa rental costs as advertised in Culsen Travel’s Jamaica villa programme, and ensure you will not be required to pay any further gratuities to the staff once on the island, except at your discretion.
TRANSPORTATION
Due to the hillside location of most villas in the Montego Bay area we recommend car hire for the convenience of our clients. Amenities such as shops, restaurants and the beach will generally involve a long walk downhill, and will be impratical for most properties. However, an alternative option is to have your own private driver with a 10 seat air-conditioned van, who can be on call to your villa on a 24 hour basis. This works particularly well with large groups who would otherwise require two or more vehicles to travel together, or may have different persons in the party who wish to do different things on any given day. Your private dedicated driver would also act be on call to make as many trips as required, and would be on hand from the day of your arrival when he meets you at the airport to transfer your party to your villa, right through to your departure, if you wish to opt for his services on a full-time basis throughout your stay.
Costs based on 10 seat air-conditioned van with dedicated driver/tour guide on anytime/anywhere service (with exception of a few destinations which require a supplement charge due to the distance involved), with 1 complimentary tank of gas inclusive of gratuities would be £679 per week - a mere £68 per person for the week! This works out to be a less expensive, hassle free option when compared with car hire rental charges along with insurance and local licences - and means there are no arguements about who drives! This service can also be hired on a daily basis on a pro-rata charge.
