GRENADA
Renowned as “the island of spice”, Grenada is an island as rich in scenery and culture, as it is in natural herbs and spices. With a large proportion of the island preserved as natural wildlife sanctuaries and parks, and tropical rainforests and waterfalls contributing to the remaining part of the landscape, Grenada is a land of genuine natural beauty. Even the island´s capital, St George´s has an unspoilt beauty, situated around the pretty harbour, with many of the surrounding buildings still boasting their original French and English colonial architectural design. Within easy distance are the sister islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and ferry services operating between the three islands makes island hopping both interesting and inexpensive.
DEVELOPING ISLAND
One of the island´s famous attractions is its local market, well worth a visit particularly on a Saturday morning when the Grenadian women come out to sell their local wares, whether spices, fruit, natural jams and preserves or handicrafts. The hustle and bustle of this scene is reminiscent of the Caribbean as it used to be, and no visitor should miss the opportunity to experience the spectacle, or make their purchases of the island´s main products. Other island attractions worth a visit include Grang Etang National Park, River Sallee Boiling Springs and Annadale Falls.
Despite being an island that still retains much of its original Caribbean charm, Grenada is an island that continues to develop and grow as an emerging and popular Caribbean destination, and its villa market is also continually developing. We are able to feature a handful of these private villas located at the southern tip of the island in Lance aux Epines. Most of the villas are staffed with a daily housekeeper to look after the domestic chores. If guests also require the services of a cook during their stay this can also be arranged on request for an additional cost.
However, for visitors wishing to sample some of the local cuisine there are a wealth of restaurants on the island. Culsen Travel can recommend two of these restaurants, both located just five minutes away from the villas. True Blue Bay is a family run waterfront restaurant specialising in international themed nights and with a kid's menu. The buffet lunches are particularly good and relatively inexpensive. For those who wish to really push the boat out and dine in style, The Calabash Restaurant is a must. Located within The Calabash Hotel, its restaurant has won a number of awards for its local and international cuisine. These are just two of the restaurants that the island has to offer, others can be found in the popular tourist area of Grand Anse and around the capital town of St Georges.
