BARBADOS
Barbados is the Caribbean's most revisited destination and has long been a favourite amongst the Brits, even being affectionately known as "Little England." As an island that has long since established itself as a haven for visitors, Barbados arguably offers some of the most sophisticated accommodation, tourist activities, and nightlife that the Caribbean has to offer. The island measures just 14x21 miles and is surrounded by 70 miles of glorious white sand beaches. However, apart from the beaches this island offers a wealth of cultural and historic attractions, great sporting facilities, including 4 championship golf courses, excellent dining in restaurants which range from local syle food huts to top class fine dining establishents with international cuisine. This is a great island for first time travellers to the Caribbean, offering a safe and friendly destination with plenty to offer visitors.
GETTING TO AND AROUND BARBADOS
Flights to Barbados are easy and convenient, departing daily from London Gatwick with both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Excel Airlines, twice voted "Best Charter Airline", also offer a twice weekly service from Gatwick to Barbados. If you are travelling from the north Virgin also offers a weekly flight from Manchester, and British Midland fly twice a week from Manchester. Flights from the UK are non stop and take around 8 hours outbound, and roughly 7 hours on the return. A First Class Service is offered onboard British Airways along with the World Traveller (Economy), World Traveller Plus & Club (Business) classes. On your arrival in Barbados we arrange for our clients to be met at the airport and transported to your accommodation in a private air-conditioned vehicle.
During your stay on Barbados, getting around is easy. Driving is on the left side making it easy for UK drivers, and roads are fairly well signposted. Car hire is the most convenient way to get around and we recommend it particularly for guests staying in a private villa. We arrange for your vehicle to be delivered to your accommodation where you will need to have a copy of your UK licence to be supplied with a temporary drivers permit at a cost of $5US. Car hire costs start from around £170 per week for a simple open sided Mini Moke, to £275 for a fully loaded air-conditioned large six seater people carrier. If you prefer to experience the local transport, then Barbados still offers a great service for locals and visitors alike. The public bus service runs regularly throughout the island with large blue coach style buses which are caught at the numerous bus stops located across the island. With all destinations costing just a couple of dollars, this is a convenient and cheap way to get around. Smaller minibuses also operate an alternative more casual bus service where passengers just hail the bus by the road and call out when they wish to get off. For those who prefer to rely on a local driver, taxis are another good way to get around the island, and visitors can often benefit from the information provided by the local drivers who often act as tour guides.
WHY CHOOSE A VILLA?
Private villas offer an alternative accommodation option for families and groups of friends who want to enjoy the beneifts of space, privacy and freedom, and they are also excellent value. Barbados offers a wealth of quality villa accommodation on its "platinum" west coast. The villas we feature range from those located directly on the beach, to those in their own gardens with a private pool, or those within a complex or secure development with a shared pool and other communal services. Most of the villas in our portfolio have the minimum staff of a maid and cook. Staff usually arrive to commence their duties at around 9am. The cook will prepare breakfast and lunch as required, then leave during the early afternoon and return in the early evening to prepare and serve dinner, leaving at around 8pm. In a small number of smaller villas where there is only one staff member, they will prepare just two meals per day – guest’s choice. In larger villas where the staff includes a butler or members of staff have their own vehicle, the staff may be able to shop for groceries too, however generally the purchase of food will be the responsibility of guests, and staff will then be able to prepare meals. However, an initial food parcel can be pre-ordered for your arrival, consisting of sufficient groceries to keep the villa stocked for a few days, which is paid for locally prior to your departure from the villa. A small number of villas and condos we feature include just maid service, but cooks can be provided as required if guests wish.
If you are a couple who wants a small villa Leamington Cottage is a lovely one bedroom cottage on the waterfront. For a large family of group of friends looking for a great value beachfront villa we recommend La Paloma a 5 bedroom villa with a small garden and gate leading directly out to Fitts Village beach. Golfers will enjoy staying on the exclusive golfing estate in a Club Villa at Royal Westmoreland, or for a more luxurious private villa Bluff House is situated on exclusive Sandy Lane, another championship golf course on the west coast. If you love tennis a stay at Sugar Hill Resort gives guests the opportunity to play each day and benefit from tuition at this David Lloyd Tennis Resort. For couples thinking about getting married in the Caribbean, a villa is the ideal setting for a private intimate wedding. The gardens of Casa Bella are prefect for a small wedding party, or for a larger wedding group, Nelson Gay is a large 6 bedroom beachfront villa with lovely gardens perfect for hosting a ceremony and garden reception.
HOTELS AND RESORTS
Barbados offers a wide selection of hotel accommodation from intimate boutique properties, to larger resorts with a range of facilities. We feature a number of hotels mainly on the island's south coast in beachfront areas such as Worthing, Hastings, Maxwell Beach and Dover Beach close to popular St Lawernce Gap. For families looking for facilities and activities to suit everyone we recommend Almond Beach Village and new sister hotel Almond Casuarina Beach Resort. For hotels which offer large studio and apartment style accommodation suitable for families with children and providing the option of self-catering there is Coral Mist Beach Hotel and Amaryllis Beach Resort. Couples looking for a great value beachfront hotel can stay at Sea Breeze Beach Hotel, or for a more luxurious all inclusive property, Mango Bay on the west coast is a good choice.
